Staying Hydrated
This information was developed with local health professionals, carers, and people with lived experience.
Drinking enough looks after your organs, your digestion and your energy, and it helps prevent illness. Aim for 6 to 8 glasses of fluid daily.
- Keep drinks close by at all times.
- Use your favourite cup. It makes a difference.
- Sip little and often rather than large amounts.
- Include hydrating foods, such as fruit, yogurt, soups and stews.
- Link drinking to routines, such as medication times, meals and television breaks.
Signs to look out for
Dry mouth, headaches, tiredness, dizziness, dark urine, constipation, confusion, or muscle cramps.
If you are concerned about any of these symptoms or feeling unwell, phone NHS 24 on 111 and ask for advice. Alternatively, contact your GP.
